The Old House Network Presents

January 19th, 2008 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Kalamazoo County Expo Center
at the Fairground.

If you are an old house lover, this is the perfect event for you! Old houses are our passion. The Old House Expo has exhibitors and speakers with the know-how - and the materials - you need to get the job done. Hands-on demonstrations in bricklaying and re-pointing for the novice, paint stripping, using wood consolidants, identifying wood and simple window repairs along with presentations on a wide variety of topics including energy savings, historic gardens, tax credits, maintenance plans for your old house and the perennial favorite - window rehabilitation and weatherization. Download the 2008 Flyer Here! (pdf)

OUR GUESTS:

BILL CLICK- Former host of DIY’s "Restoration Realities" - Bill’s show dealt with the inevitable surprises and unexpected situations we discover when working on our old houses - and how to modify your plans to complete the project anyway. We loved the show and have asked Bill to be our keynote. Bill will be speaking twice:

"ALTERNATIVE BUILDING MATERIALS & RESTORATION - what's appropriate and what's not"

"REDEVELOPMENT FOR DUMMIES - OUCH! THAT'S GOING TO LEAVE A MARK!"

Brian Black - Grand River Builders - "Maintenance for your Old House". Brian will also be available in the Vendors Hall in the afternoon as the "Old House Troubleshooter" - bring your tough questions - and photos - and get the answer to your problem.

Bryan Lijewski - "Historic Preservation Tax Credits" - State Historic Preservation Office

Dick Spigelmyer - "Everything you ever wanted to know about Windows" - Window Replacement Systems International. Dick has been repairing old windows from simple homes to the Kentucky state capitol for over half a century.

Blair Bates - "Old House Masonry and Mortar" - Building Restoration Inc. BRI has helped restore buildings from the Tawas Point lighthouse to the churches around Bronson Park.

Lynn Houghton - "Researching your Old House History" - One of Kalamazoo’s premier historians guides you though learning who owned your house in the past and what sort of people they were

Tony Springer - "How Old IS my Old House" - using the house itself for clues to its age - wood, nails, door latches and more! - St. Joseph County Historical Society.

Janis Putelis - "Energy Savings in your Old House" Janis has been inspecting houses in Southwestern Michigan for decades. ProTec House Inspections.

Sharon Ferraro "Moving Houses to save them - the ultimate Mobile Home" How do they do it? Details on house moves over the past decade in Kalamazoo.
Continuous demonstrations of different paint stripping techniques including hand stripping, chemicals, natural solvents and various forms of heat. Other demonstrations include replacing sash rope in double hung windows, using wood consolidants, identifying woods in your old house and mortar repointing and plaster repairs for the novice.

Tickets will be available at the door for $5.00 each. (Seniors, kids & Students $3.00)
